Superhero 15th Birthday Party

Hi!
So I know it's been a couple months since I posted anything. I actually meant to go through my camera and edit some of Oliver's birthday party pictures but I have a million other things on my plate that it kind of just fell through the cracks.
On another note, my baby brother turned 15 yesterday ( a Cinco de Mayo baby)
and he requested a Superhero party- specifically Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, and I honestly could not have been happier with how it turned out.
We had a mechanical bull, a live band and a DJ, 3 piƱatas, and tons of food and drinks to go through the night. I appointed myself in charge of the cake table and spent just 2 days crafting and decorating. The party was a last minute thing, so I didn't spend weeks stressing and obsessing over minor details and was able to just focus on the big things.

So here it is:

Oliver's First Birthday Party

It's Friday!!

So last Saturday was Oliver's first birthday party
It was incredibly hectic the first few hours,
and then once guests started arriving, as host, it was tiring!
Oliver also woke up from his morning nap with a fever so he hardly enjoyed the party at all
He spent most of the event attached to my husband or with a relative
Barely played, didn't touch his cupcake, and didn't really eat either =(

Here's a few highlights,
I still have to upload the pictures and edit,
but here are a few I took with my phone-

Weekend Recap

Oliver's on his way to walking!
So far he is trying to stand on his own. At first I don't think he was aware of it, he would just let go of whatever he was holding on to and then a couple seconds later you could tell he realized it and would drop down. The past couple weeks he's been standing on his own on purpose! He will look at us with a huge smile or start waving his hands around in excitement. After we applaud and cheer, he will slowly sit down. My dad says he's seen him stand up on his own too, but I haven't =(
He's also getting pretty fast when we walk him holding only one of his hands,
or when he's pushing around his car or stool.
His birthday party is this weekend! After much debate I have decided to paint the brownies, cookies, and fondant cake embellishments I will be making. I'm inspired by these pictures:

At first I was just going to use fondant, color it, and cut it out..and use royal icing for the cookies.
Then I decided I wasn't brave enough for all that,
so I cut out rocket ship and star fondant shapes.

Playing with fondant was actually fun!
Not gonna lie, I was scared at first...I even snuck in a taste when I opened it (it was sweet and gummy)
Then I used silver pearl dust to paint the stars, and red and blue gel coloring to paint the rocket ship
As for the cookies, I plan on cutting them out in the #1 shape,
covering in chocolate candy melt, and painting them like I did with
the rocket ships. I suck at baking pretty cookies, so we'll see how that goes

I have to take pictures of the other projects I've done for the party.
Ooo and my hubby's birthday was on Saturday! He turned 27 and was Not happy
I made him pancakes in the morning and we went shopping, bowling, and went out for Teppanyaki

I still need to clean up the back yard where the tables will be placed,
but other than that, we're good to go!

xoxo Nora

Post Edit: So I colored the rockets......
and hated them
They look sloppy =(
So I'm going with plan B and using these wooden rockets I found at Hobby Lobby =)
eww hehe
